Mike Daniel served as the Hendrix Swimming & Diving head coach from 1975-80. Taking over for legendary coach Bob Courtway, Daniel continued to build on his predecessor’s success.

Daniel’s Warriors placed second at the Arkansas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in his first season. After that, he guided Hendrix to four consecutive conference titles from 1977-80. He was named the 1976 AIC Coach of the Year as well as the 1978 AWISA Coach of the Year for his success with the women’s program.

Daniel coached the Warriors’ first national champion, four All-American and 51 AIC champions.

He left Hendrix in May 1980 to complete his doctorate at the University of Arkansas, where he worked full time as a research assistant, assistant professor and Director of the Human Performance Laboratory.  In 1984, Daniel became the Assistant Professor and Director of Education Support Center at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia.

He left SAU to become Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Education at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where he stayed until 2000. Daniel then moved to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he was the Professor of Kinesiology and Chair of the Department of Health and Kinesiology. From 2003 to 2008, he served as the Dean of the College of Education at TAMUK, before returning to full-time teaching in the Exercise Science program.

Daniel will retire in May 2017 to Port Aransas, Texas, with his wife Janet.
