MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College field hockey season came to an end with a 5-1 loss to Sewanee - The University of the South in the quarterfinals of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Friday.
The fifth-seeded Warriors (3-12) scored the first goal of the game in the eighth minute when freshman forward
Grace Shapiro found the back of the cage. The fourth-seeded Tigers (6-8) tied it up in the 11th minute and added two more goals in the first half to take a 3-1 lead at the break. Sewanee tacked on two more scores in the second half.
Sewanee outshot Hendrix 38-10 overall and 29-7 on goal. The Tigers led in penalty corners 9-4.
The game was the final in the careers for
Raychl Reger,
Gabryele Pochron and
Anna King.
Hendrix Notes
- Pochron recorded 23 saves in the game, bringing her career total to 1,031 - the fourth most in NCAA Division III history.Â
- Shapiro's goal was the fifth of the season for the freshman

Bridget Umble had a defensive save, the fifth of the season and 15th of her career.
- Reger took five shots, four on goal.
- Pochron and Reger will compete in the NFHCAÂ DIII Senior Game in Geneva, N.Y. on Nov. 19.
