Hendrix Track Sets 7 New Records in Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The 2016 indoor track & field season got off to a hot start for Hendrix College as the men's team broke seven school records at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Illinois College Saturday.

Both the men's and women's Warrior squads placed 16th in the heavily populated event that featured teams from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA.

Three-time All-American junior Victoria Amadi had the highest finish for any Hendrix athlete of the day. She finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.32 meters (37 ft.-1.75 in.)

Freshman pole vaulter Wes Hance set the Hendrix record with a fifth place finish and clearing 4.15 meters (13 ft.-7.25 in.). The distance medley relay team of juniors Cam Meek and Ian Jenkins and freshmen Demarcus McDaniel and Nathan Andress broke the two-year old record by 9.6 seconds with a time of 11:31.17, placing fourth.

Junior Shaquille Grant broke the three-year old triple jump record by nearly three feet with a mark of 12.64 meters (41 ft.-5.75 in.), placing sixth. Junior Stephen Stearman broke his own two-year old mark in the weight throw with a distance of 12.96 meters (42 ft.-6.25 in.), finishing 14th.

Freshman Michael Spainhour was 19th in the 60 meter dash preliminaries in a new school record 7.17 seconds. The older mark of 7.21 was set in 2012 and tied again in 2014.

Jenkins shaved a little over four seconds off the 800 meters record set in 2013. He ran a time of 2:05.98, placing 15th. Senior Hunter Briggs broke his own 5,000 meter record with a time of 17:59.59, placing 26th.

Hendrix Men's Notes
- Spainhour, from Greenbrier, Ark., scored points in the long jump with a seventh place finish and a distance of 6.02 meters (19 ft.-9 in.). He was also eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.57 meters (41 ft.-3 in.).
- Stearman was threw the shot 12.95 meters (42 ft.-6 in.) for 14th place.
- Junior Matt Ramirez took 13th in the high jump by clearing 1.77 meters (5 ft.-9.75 in.).
- Andress ran the mile in 4:44.93, placing 14th.
- Jenkins finished 15th in the 800 meter run in 2:05.98.
- Freshman Travis England had a 200 meter time of 24.39 seconds, placing 32nd.

Hendrix Women's Notes
- Junior Kelly Brice finished ninth in the pole vault by clearing 2.23 meters (7 ft.-3.75 in.) and was17th in the long jump with a distance of 3.95 meters (12 ft.-11.5 in.).
- Junior Katie Beard placed 10th with a 400 meter dash mark of 1:03.93.  She ran the 200 dash in 29.08 seconds, finishing 23rd.
- Sophomore Hannah Tackett was 11th with a high jump of 1.37 meters (4 ft.-6 in.).

Hendrix will be off until Feb. 26 when they compete in the Principia Multis in Elsah, Ill.
