Danny Powell first came to Hendrix in 1999 as an associate director of development. He then made the transition to Hendrix Warrior Athletics, serving for a decade as the College’s athletic director, with an expanded role starting in 2006 as executive director of athletics, recreation and wellness.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and economics from the University of Arkansas, and a Master of Science degree with a major in sports management from Georgia Southern University. Powell started his athletics career as an intern and then coordinator of athletic marketing and promotions at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. From there he served as assistant athletics director at Emporia State University in Kansas, then as associate athletics director at the University of Central Arkansas.

During Powell’s tenure with Warrior Athletics, he oversaw substantial expansion of the athletics programs and wellness facilities, including the 2007 construction of the Wellness and Athletics Center, as well as the track and artificial turf field behind it (which later became part of Young-Wise Memorial Stadium). He moved to the Division of Student Affairs in December 2011, where he continued to serve Hendrix students until 2013. Powell is a 2001 graduate of the Faulkner County Leadership Institute, a past member and president of the Conway Rotary Club as well as a past board member of the Boys and Girls Club of Faulkner County, United Way of Central Arkansas, the City of Conway Parks Advisory Board, the City of Conway Bicycle Advisory Board and the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Committee.
