Doyne Hunnicut, class of 1938, won the long jump at a national high school track meet in Chicago in a field of 62 competitors. He qualified for the 1936 Olympics in Munich, Germany, but did not have the finances to make the trip. A three-year track letterman, Hunnicut led the Warrior track team to the state college championship in 1937 by winning the long jump, coming in third in the 100 yard dash, and running on the 440, 880, and mile relay teams.
