Dr. Karen Cormier Burks (Class of 1990) of North Little Rock, Ark., was a four-year letterman and All-American swimmer for the Water Warriors. As a freshman, Burks earned College Swim Coaches Association of America Honorable Mention NAIA All-America honors with her teammates in the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays and on the 400 yard medley relay team. In 1988, she was again named to the CSCAA Honorable Mention NAIA All-America Swim Team for her performance in the 200 yard freestyle relays and that same year was named to the NAIA All-Academic Swimming and Diving Team. Burks received NAIA All-America honors in 1989 in the 100-yard breaststroke, was named as an NAIA Women’s Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete and was an All-NSISL selection. In 1990, she was named to the NAIA All-America Swimming and Diving Team in the 200 yard and 400 yard medley relays.
