Gerald Cound served as the head men’s track and field and cross country coach at Hendrix for four years from 1969-72 and 1974-75. During that time, the cross country team finished in the top three each year and runner-up three of the four years in the AIC Championship meet which was the best era in the AIC in program history. In 1972, his Warrior track and field team finished fourth in the AIC Championship Meet and he was named AIC Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches. Cound also served as assistant basketball coach under Morton Hutto for two years, taking over as interim head coach during Hutto’s illness after seven games of the 1970-71 season. He served Hendrix as Dean of Students from 1972-74. In 1974-75, Cound served as an assistant basketball coach under Cliff Garrison then served two years as an assistant track and cross country coach at the University of Central Arkansas. His honors include induction into the UCA Hall of Fame and Arkansas Track and Field Hall of Fame.
