Jackie Banks of Brinkley, Arkansas, was one of the greatest all-around athletes for the Warriors’ legendary coach Cliff Garrison.
Banks was a 1989-90 season All-AIC First Team and NAIA All-District 17 selection. A stat line stuffer, he recorded 1,294 career points (11.9 per game), 822 rebounds (7.5 per game) and 421 assists. Banks also shot 48.4 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from three-point range and 77.9 percent from the free throw line. Banks ranks 17th on the Warrior career scoring list, second in rebounds, fourth in assists, fifth in rebounds per game and sixth in assists per game. He is tied for the school record for most rebounds in game with 21.
After graduating from Hendrix in 1990, Banks signed with a semi-professional team in Germany and toured Europe for a year. When he returned to the States, he was hired mid-season as the boys and girls coach at Hazen High School. The following year he accepted the assistant men’s basketball position at Ouachita Baptist University under head coach Mike Reynolds. Banks then moved on to play for the Memphis Hot Shots in the Continental Basketball Association.
At the end of his basketball career, Banks served as a Shelter Insurance agent and then Assistant Vice President with Farm Credit Services. In 2000, he became the Vice President of BancorpSouth in Stuttgart, Arkansas, and furthered his education at Barrett School of Banking. While at Barrett, Banks was elected class president. Specializing in Agricultural and Commercial Lending, Banks moved up to Senior Vice President and Executive Vice President. Currently, Banks is a rice farmer and was featured in Rice Farming Magazine in 2014.
