Hendrix College Athletics

John Bumpers, class of ’73, was a four-year letterman for the Hendrix Water Warriors. He set AIC conference records in five individual and two relay events. In his freshman year, he placed in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke at the NAIA championships and in each of the next three years, he placed in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly. Three times he was designated an NAIA All-American. Bumpers was also named the outstanding water polo player at the NAIA area I Tournament. After graduation, he gave leadership in the continuation of the Hendrix Aquakids, one of Arkansas’ oldest age group swimming programs.
