Kenny Johnson was recruited by Coach Lawrence Mobley in 1963 as a point guard. He played basketball at Jonesboro High School, where he was named All-District and All-State for the Hurricanes. At Hendrix College, he became the floor leader for the Warriors. He had uncanny vision, and was always aware of the location of his teammates in the setup on the court.
He ended his basketball career having played in a record 102 straight games, with 740 points scored. His leadership was highlighted during his sophomore year, when his performance on the court was instrumental in taking the Warriors to a second-place finish in the Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference Tournament. As Warrior team captain in 1966, he earned All-AIC honors and closed out his collegiate career with his final game day designated by Hendrix College as “Kenny Johnson Day.
