Laurie Smith devoted 22 years to the Hendrix College Warriors Athletics Program. During that time, she was the administrative assistant to the Athletic Directors and the heads of the Physical Education and Kinesiology Departments, and she showed unequaled dedication to the program as director of the Warrior Spirit Programs that included the Cheerleaders, the Warrior Dance Team, and the selection and training of the Warrior mascot.
Before the removal of Ivan Grove Gymnasium to make room for the new Student Life and Technology Center, Smith led and coordinated the “Goodbye Grove” events that celebrated the building’s significance. She was designated the Athletics Department liaison for the Warrior Booster Club (WBC), the WBC Golf Tournament, and the Hendrix College Sports Hall of Honor, and she also organized and maintained the displays and trophy cases in the Wellness and Athletics Center. As a result of her commitment to excellence, she received the 2015 James E. Major Service Award.
