Lawrence Mobley, class of '49, was a multi-sport athlete at Hendrix, lettering three years in basketball and two years in tennis. He was named honorable mention All AIC and was the winner of the first Ivan H. Grove season highest percentage free throw award.  After graduation Mobley coached boy’s basketball at Conway High School and oversaw the opening of CHS’s first basketball gym.  He served as head boy’s basketball coach at Little Rock Central High where in just four years his team earned two state runner-up honors and a state championship.  In 1960 Mobley returned to Hendrix to coach men’s basketball where he recruited some of the most highly sought after players n the state and led the Warriors to a winning season in just three years.
