Joe Durmon, of Fordyce, Ark., set the school record in the men’s pole vault in 1971 at 4.81 meters (15ft.-9.5in.), a record that still stands to this day. Durmon received All-AIC (AIC Champion) in the pole vault in the years 1970 and 1971 and competed in several NAIA events.

After Hendrix, Durmon attended University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy in Little Rock. Durmon was also a veteran pilot and logged 1600 hours of flying time, including 850 hours in the F-14 jet, during in his 7-year tenure in the Navy while based in San Diego.
