He was named to the 1926 All-Association Second Team. The news media considered him the class of all first baseman in Arkansas college baseball during the spring of 1926. He was named by several as the only Hendrix man to be placed on the mythical All-State nine. Charles was captain of the baseball team for the 1927 season and was one of the leading hitters. After graduation, Charles coached football at Carthage, Pine Bluff Junior High (claiming the state championship), Pine Bluff High School and Fordyce. He also directed intramurals at Hendrix before serving as director of physical education and intramurals and assistant football coach at Henderson State University.
