The late W. W. “Woody” Robertson (Class of 1939) of Glenwood, Ark. was a four-year letterman in football, basketball and track. On the gridiron, Robertson, a 6-1, 165 lb. wingman, played for the legendary Ivan Grove. A dependable player, Robertson was known for his pass-catching and all-around ability and was named an honorable mention All-State selection in 1938. In basketball, Robertson became one of the best defensive men in the state, was noted for his ability at taking the ball off the backboard and was instrumental on a team that won the 1938 State Championship. Robertson, known as a brilliant runner, was a distance man on the 1937 and 1938 State Championship track teams. He took first in the quarter and half-mile runs and second on the mile relay team in ‘37, earning a white championship letter sweater and as a senior served as captain of the ’39 team. He was a member of the H Association and earned a total of 12 letters in three sports during his college career.
