From Blytheville, Ark., Wes Crawford was a multi-sport letterman, including basketball and track and field. He was a four-year basketball letterman at Hendrix, led the team in scoring two years and was a four-year starter on a team that opened Grove Gymnasium in 1961 with a record of 63-37 during his career.

When Crawford was a Hendrix student-athlete, the Warriors qualified for the NAIA District playoffs all four years and finished third in the AIC one year and runner-up in the tournament another. He was twice named All-AIC honorable mention, All-AIC second team once and finished second in scoring on the team his junior year.

“I’m glad to see that Hendrix supports athletics, even though they no longer give athletic scholarships,” he says. “Athletics are also an education. They teach teamwork and how to work together as a group to achieve a common goal. They also teach discipline and how to overcome adversity, which everyone encounters in life.

“The education I received at Hendrix changed the way I looked at things and gave me a thirst for knowledge,” he adds. “It opened many doors for me and provided opportunities for me in both my personal life and business life.”
