William Leslie “Bill” Yates (’50) of Dyess was a four year letterman at end in football, a four year letterman in basketball, and a three year letterman in track.  In football he was Honorable Mention All-AIC, second team All-AIC, the leading pass receiver and chosen by Ouachita Baptist College to their first team all opponent team.  In basketball he led the team in scoring and was the third highest scorer in the AIC.  He was an all around participant in track highlighted by second place in the high and low hurdles in the AIC for two years.  He was named Who’s Who Best Athlete in 1950 and also was awarded the Ivan Grove Free Throw Award and the Hugh Robertson Award for the Best All Around Athlete his senior year.  Following graduation he had a highly successful coaching career in many sports in the Arkansas and Florida public school systems.
