Freshman Sam Melhorn, from Knoxville, Tenn., broke a 32-yeard old record at the 54th Annual Hendrix Relays Friday night. He swam the first leg of the 400 yard medley individual medley relay in 55.39 seconds, breaking Hendrix Hall of Honor member Eric Hooyschur's time of 55.90 set in 1984. Melhorn was also just .16 seconds off the 50 yard breaststroke mark and .49 outside of the 100 breaststroke in the first leg of the 3x100 breaststroke relay. At Saturday's 49th Annual Hendrix Classic, Melhorn was second with a time of 2:14.50 in the 200 yard breaststroke and took fourth in the 200 individual medley in 1:59.89.
