Warriors Drop a Pair to Vikings

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team took a pair of conference losses on Sunday afternoon, dropping both games of their doubleheader with Southern Athletic Association rival Berry College 6-0 and 19-0.

Michaela Larabee was solid in the leadoff spot for Hendrix, combining to go 2-for-4 with a walk in five plate appearances in the two games. Madi Fires, Autumn Martin and Victoria Hughes each recorded singles on the day as well.

Hendrix allowed one run in the first inning of game one, and five more in the second inning as Berry took a 6-0 lead in the early going. Martin settled in on the mound after that, tossing five shutout innings to finish the game. The Warriors' offense had opportunities to score but could not deliver a clutch hit to bring home their runners. Hendrix stranded a pair of runners in the first inning, after Larabee walked and Martin singled through the left side. The squad's best opportunity to score came in the fifth. Morgan Fires drew a walk, followed by back-to-back singles from Hughes and Larabee, but all three were left stranded.

In game two, Berry showed off their offensive muscle. Hendrix threw four different pitchers at the Vikings, trying to mix up their timing and location, but the visitors were dialed in at the plate. Berry recorded 19 runs on 20 hits to earn the five-inning victory. Kayla Davis tossed five innings to earn the shutout and the win from the circle. Larabee and Madi Fires recorded the Warriors' only two hits of the game.
