Warriors Dropped by Berry in SAA Playoffs

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team saw their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon as they fell to the third-seeded Berry College Vikings 19-10 in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Athletic Association playoffs.

Christian Wheeler made four saves in the first three quarters but took the loss in net. Joe Takacs stopped three shots in the final frame for the Warriors. Carson Boone led the team with four goals while Travis Rabun finished with two goals and an assist. TK Shaffer added a score and dished off three helpers for the Orange and Black.

The Warriors played evenly with the Vikings through the first quarter, and even held a 2-1 lead. After a Viking goal, Boone and Ortenstone scored just 32 seconds apart as the visitors snagged an early advantage just under three minutes into the contest. Berry scored two consecutive goals, but Rabun answered with his first of the game to tie the score at 3-3 headed into the second quarter.

Patrick Rogers gave Hendrix a 4-3 lead just 42 seconds into the second frame on his 10th score of the year, but the Vikings responded with five consecutive goals to take an 8-4 lead. Rabun and Boone each scored in the final four minutes of the half as the Warriors went into halftime trailing 9-5.

In the third quarter, the Berry offense controlled the pace of play and outscored the Orange and Black 6-2 to widen their lead. Shaffer and Boone accounted for the Hendrix goals in the third as they entered the final frame trailing 15-7.

In the fourth, Berry played possession in an attempt to run out the clock with their lead. Robbie Borrello and Boone each scored in the final four minutes, but it wasn't enough to challenge the Vikings as the Warriors fell 19-10.

Hendrix finishes their season with a 6-8 overall mark and graduates Branden Harbaugh, the team's only senior. Harbaugh finishes second in program history in caused turnovers with 56 in his career. He also graduates as the career leader in games played, featuring in 61 contests.
