Warriors Drop SAA Finale to Tigers

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team lost their regular season finale to Sewanee - The University of the South 14-6 at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium Sunday.

The Warriors (8-7) finish the Southern Athletic Association season with a 3-4 record and will be the fifth seed in the conference tournament. They will take on the fourth-seeded Birmingham-Southern in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday.

The Tigers (8-6, 6-1), who finished the season in second place, led 4-1 after the first quarter. Hendrix tied it up at 5-5 before halftime. Sewanee went on to outscored the Orange & Black 9-1 in the second half.

For the game, Hendrix recorded six goals, four assists, 32 shots, 20 on goal, 22 ground balls, six faceoffs, 12 turnovers and 10 caused turnovers while going 15-for-17 on clears. Sewanee had 14 goals, four assists, 56 shots, 32 on goal, 43 ground balls, 17 faceoffs, 18 turnovers and six caused turnovers and were 15-of-21 on clears.

Before the game, the Warriors honored their six seniors - Christian Wheeler, Jason Blatt, Graham Marcus, Ben Cunningham, Alex Ortenstone and Michael Riley.

- Drew Scanlan, Jack Gorman and Matt Latham each recorded a goal and an assist.
- T. Michael Thomas and Cole Cramer both scored once.
- Junior defenseman Reed Mershon scored his first career goal on a fast break and picked up two ground balls.
- Riley had three ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Blatt picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover.
- Marcus had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.
- Ortenstone registered an assist and two ground balls.
