Sewanee, TN -Â The Hendrix College softball team returned back Sewanne, TN for the final game in their match-up with SAA conference foe, Sewanee. Hendrix's record sat at 11-13 overall, 4-7 SAA.
Hendrix pitcher
Emily Stockalper had a strong game as the Warrior cruised to victory.Â
In what turned out to be a six inning game, Stockalper went the distance allowing four hits, striking out five.
The Hendrix offensive gave Stockalper all the support she needed as they exploded for eight runs in the first inning. The Warrior capitalized on eight hits to put the dent on the scoreboard. The top of the order got the job done as
Bryanna Carlisle started by getting walked and
Taylor Oglesby set the table with sacrifice bunt to move Carlisle to second.
Jordan Mallard would then get walked and
Nikki Sanders then singled to load the bases for HC.
Laura Mortan would then single to bring home Carlisle to jump out to an early 1-0 lead.
Aubrey Brink would then smash a four run homerun to put HC up 5-0 with only one out.
Karli Sewell would then step up to the plate and deliver a single and would advance to second on a wild pitch. This was followed by a
Hannah Billings single. Carlisle would get up to bat again and this time hit a single to bring home Sewell and make the HC lead 6-0. To finish off the eight run explosion was Oglesby who recorded a single and brought home Carlisle and Billings to tally the last two runs of the inning.
The Mavericks took the second inning off but got back to work in the third inning. Oglesby would double and advance to third on an error by the shortstop. She would make it home on a Sanders single for HC's lone run in the third inning.
Up 9-3, the Warriors looked to tag on some insurance runs and they did in a major way in the sixth inning. Sanders started off with a double and Brink advanced her to home on a double of her own.Â
Morgan Maida stepped up and crushed a two RBI single to bring home
Brooke Lowry and Brink. Â
The game ended after six innings and saw Hendrix win by a score of 12-6 behind an offensive attack that could not be slowed down and a strong performance on the mound from Stockalper. The offense was led by Brink who was a perfect 4-4, scored two runs and drove in five more. Sanders also had a great game at the dish, supplying three hits, two runs scored, and one RBI.
The wins improved Hendrix to 12-13 overall, 5-7 SAA. The Warriors will head to Clarksville, AR on Tuesday April 3rd for a non-conference match-up with in state rival, Ozarks. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
