Warriors Hold Early Advantage But Ultimately Fall to Colonels in SAA Home Opener

CONWAY, Ark. - In its first home game in nearly a month, Hendrix faced Centre in its Southern Athletic Association home opener Saturday from Warrior Field. The Warriors held the early 3-2 lead but Centre scored 16 of the next 17 goals to hold the 18-4 advantage early in the second half. The Colonels picked up the 21-6 win to improve to 3-3 on the season and 2-0 in SAA play while the Warriors fall to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference contests. Alison Watanabe scored a team-high three goals on three shots with a couple of ground balls as well.

OF NOTE:
- Watanabe scored her first goal three-plus minutes into the game to give Hendrix the early 1-0 edge.
- Trailing 2-1, Hannah Burroughs and Sophie Mazzaro scored back-to-back goals for the Warriors as Hendrix led 3-2 with 22:19 left in the first half.
- After Centre scored 10 consecutive goals, Watanabe scored her second goal of the day with 4:29 left in the first half.
- Centre scored six straight goals before Watanabe and Burroughs recorded back-to-back scores before Centre scored the final three of the game to win 21-6.

BOX SCORE NOTABLE:
- Burroughs added two goals while Mazzaro accounted for one.
- Burroughs, Watanabe and Mazzaro also added three shots each and three shots on goal Saturday.
- Watanabe, JJ Tufu, Ashley Ybarra and Hagan Griffith accounted for two ground balls each against the Colonels.
- Mazarro and Ybarra also registered a pair of caused turnovers on the day while Burroughs went 1-for-2 on free position shots.

- Hendrix remains home to face Culver Stockton Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
