CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix dropped Sunday's doubleheader to No. 13 Berry (Ga.) at Warrior Softball Field. The Vikings won the first game, a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) affair, 14-2 and the second, a non-conference tilt, 10-1, each in five innings.
Berry (19-6, 8-4) has won nine of its last 10 contests overall.
In game one, Morgan Frye and Anna Jackson each hit a three-run homer to left in the second and third innings, respectively, for the Vikings. Jackson and Riley Jackson each batted 3-for-3. Niki Peters drove in four runs, while Frye and A. Jackson each plated three. R. Jackson scored three times.
Emily Schechter (1-0) picked up the win in the circle with three innings of relief, allowing one earned run on two hits with a strikeout, two walks and hit batter. Madison Hollis started but got a no decision, giving up one earned run on two hits with a strikeout in two innings.
Jaydan Hunt ended 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored for Hendrix (4-13, 2-10 SAA).
Grace Bryant and
Kinsey Bryant each had a hit and RBI.
Hailey Johnston and Laura Morton each drew a walk.
Johnston (2-5) suffered the loss in the circle after surrendering 10 earned runs on nine hits with a strikeout in two innings.
In the fourth inning of game two, Frye hit another three-run home run to left, while Jackson recorded a two-run dinger to left.
Five Vikings had two hits apiece. Frye drove in five.
Meredith Holland (8-2) went the distance in the circle for the victory, allowing one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
Savannah Shaw batted 2-for-3 for
Amy Weaver's bunch. K. Bryant, Mortan,
Aubrey Lee and
Brooke Lowry each had a single. K. Bryant drove in Hunt in the bottom of the first with two outs.
Hunt (1-3) took the loss in the circle, giving up nine runs, seven earned, on eight hits with four walks in 3.2 innings of work.
Skyler Teague pitched an inning and a third of relief, allowing an unearned run on five hits with a strikeout.
Hendrix and Rhodes (Tenn.) conclude the regular season April 17-18 with a four-game series at Warrior Softball Field. First pitch in each doubleheader is set for noon CT.
In order for the Warriors to clinch the No. 4-seed in the SAA Tournament, Hendrix must win the first three games of its series against the Lynx and have Centre (Ky.) lose two of its first three in a series at Berry during the same two-day span.
