Hendrix falls to Whittier

CONWAY, Ark. - Whittier (Calif.) defeated Hendrix, 18-12, on Saturday at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.

The Warriors led 2-0 less than four minutes into the first quarter after goals by Brandon Barnes and Nick Quarles and 3-2 with 7:12 left in the period after Collin Tolsma found the back of the net. The Orange and Black and Poets were tied at three after 15 minutes.

Patrick Richard scored with 12:59 left in the second quarter to give Hendrix (1-2) a 4-3 advantage, but Whittier (2-0) responded by scoring four of the next five goals. The Warriors' Alec Davis found the back of the net with 10:45 left to tie the affair at five. The Poets scored the next two goals before Barnes and Quarles scored to knot the contest at seven with 2:41 on the clock, but Whittier scored the next four goals to lead for good.

The Poets led 9-7 at intermission and 14-8 at the end of the third quarter.

Wiley Burkett and Cameron Bentley each scored four goals for the Poets. Ronan Dooney and Sergei Jacobs tallied three apiece. 

Jacobs and Owen Wallace each had two assists.

Joshua Peavey picked up 14 ground balls and won 19-of-24 face offs.

Drew Low (2-0) made eight saves and went the distance between the pipes for the Poets.

Whittier was 12-of-12 on clears.

Barnes, Quarles, Richard and Klaus Rowan each scored two goals. Maximus LaMendola had two assists.

Barnes recorded five shots on goal. 

LaMendola had six ground balls and Hunter Holden five.

Ian Domeika (1-2) recorded 21 saves in 60 minutes in net for the Warriors.

Hendrix was 14-of-14 on clears.

The Warriors host Dallas (Texas) on Feb. 26 starting at noon CT.
