MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Hendrix dropped the first two contests of a three-game series Saturday against No. 15 Berry (Ga.) at Kay Williams Field. The Vikings won game one, 5-4, and game two, 12-0 in five innings, snapping the Warriors' eight-game win streak in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play, including three-straight on the road.
In game one, Hendrix (13-5, 6-2 SAA) erased a 4-1 deficit with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. A
Peyton Nance RBI ground out started the rally.
Betty Wolfe scored when
Avery Colclaser reached base on a fielding error by Katie White to make the score 4-3. An
Andie Houser RBI single tied the affair.
However, Grace Hamilton scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame for Berry (14-7, 5-0 SAA) on a Warriors' fielding error.
Morgan Frye, Blair Hall and Aleeya Thornton each had two hits for the Vikings. Hall scored twice.Â
Hall (2-1) pitched a complete game, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits with three strikeouts, four walks and a wild pitch.
Colclaser, Houser,
Grace Bryant and
Kinsey Bryant each had a hit. Nance, Houser and G. Bryant each drove in a run. Colclaser, G. Bryant, Wolfe and
Gabby Naples each scored a run.
Hailey Johnston started the game in the circle for the Warriors but took a no decision after giving up three earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks in 4.2 innings.
Skyler Teague (4-1) was tagged with the loss after pitching 1.2 innings of relief, surrendering two runs, one earned, on four hits with a strikeout and walk.
In game two, Berry scored four runs in the first, one in the third and seven in the fourth.
Four different Vikings had two hits. Frye drove in three. Anna Jackson scored three times.
Berry's Emily Whitehead (3-2) went the distance in the circle, allowing two hits with four strikeouts and a walk.
Nance and
Aubrey Lee each had a hit. Houser drew a base on balls.
Kelsey Sample (2-2) took the defeat after pitching three innings, giving up eight earned runs on as many hits with a strikeout.
Tori Veith pitched 0.2 innings of perfect relief.
