CONWAY, Ark. - Dr. Shelby Anderson, a former Hendrix softball player and current certified mental performance consultant, spoke to nearly 650 Warriors' student-athletes and coaches from 23 varsity and club teams for two hours Monday inside Grove Gymnasium on mental health and performance anxiety.
Anderson's presentation included breathing exercises and how to make connections with peers and licensed professionals to deal with mental health issues.
Voted Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Woman of the Year as a senior, Anderson was an infielder for four seasons (2013-16) for the Warriors. She was named to the All-SAA first team as a junior and senior, second team as a freshman and honorable mention as a sophomore. Anderson was named to the SAA All-Tournament Team as a junior and senior. She broke school record for runs, doubles, slugging percentage, triples, total bases and hit by pitch and tied for first in double plays turned. Anderson ranked second in school history in stolen base percentage and walks, third in on-base percentage, home runs, RBIs and chances, fourth in putouts and assists, tied for fourth in hits, fifth in batting average and stolen bases and seventh in at-bats.
Off the field, Anderson was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete as a sophomore and senior and to the SAA Academic Honor Roll all four seasons.
Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Hendrix in 2016, Master of Science in sport and exercise psychology from Ithaca (N.Y.) in 2018 and Doctor of Philosophy in sport and exercise psychology from UNCG in 2022.
