Hendrix splits two games Friday in SAA Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - No. 4 seed Hendrix split two games on the first day of the Berry (Ga.) Pod in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament. The Warriors blanked No. 5 seed Rhodes (Tenn.), 3-0, in Friday's opening game before falling to the top seed and 13th-ranked Vikings, 5-0.

Hendrix (19-17) faces the Lynx in an elimination game Saturday at Kay Williams Field. First pitch is 11 a.m. CT.

Following the first game, the Warriors have won two of the last three neutral site meetings and end a two-game skid against this year's fifth seed.

Hendrix (19-16) shut out Rhodes (13-20) for the first time since a 2-0 triumph April 10, 2016, at Warrior Softball Field. The Orange and Black have won their last three SAA Tournament openers and end a two-game skid in the conference tournament.

Mark Suire improved to 4-1 in his last five postseason games as a head coach.

An Andie Houser RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the fourth proved to be the only run support reigning SAA Pitcher of the Week Skyler Teague (8-2) would need, as she went the distance in the circle for the second-straight game and third time in the last four appearances, tossing a three-hitter with three strikeouts and a walk.

Hendrix added two insurance runs in the fifth courtesy of RBI doubles from Grace Bryant and Aubrey Lee to center and left center, respectively.

Lee and Peyton Nance each had two hits. Lee, Bryant and Gabby Naples each scored a run. Nance drew a walk.

Three Lynx had one hit apiece.

Beth Fleming (6-7) was tagged with the loss after pithing 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits with a strikeout, walk and hit batter.

In game two, Berry (26-11) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth off an Aleeya Thornton RBI single. The Vikings added four runs in the fifth.

Thornton and Morgan Frye each batted 2-for-3. Anna Jackson also had two hits.

Berry's Blair Hall (6-2) pitched a perfect game, recording five strikeouts.

The Warriors' Hailey Johnston (8-7) pitched four innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits with a strikeout and two walks. Makayla Ragland threw two innings of one-hit relief to go along with a walk.
