Student Co-Curricular Projects in Literature and Language
Tanner Barrett
Translation Analysis of Vergil's Aeneid 6
Project supervisor: Rebecca Resinski, Languages/Classics
This summer, Barrett will analyze modern translations of Book 6 of Vergil's
Aeneid, a celebrated Roman epic poem. After translating
Aeneid 6 and researching secondary sources, he will compare translations of the text and explore modern translations that strike varying balances between the scholarly and the poetic. This project will compare these modern translations with one another and with Vergil's Latin, seeing the choices they made, small and large, and what effect choices have upon an experience of the poem.

Living and Learning Medical Spanish in Cacha, Ecuador
Project supervisor: Lilian Contreras-Silva, Languages/Spanish
Over winter break, Shah and Vasquez lived with host families in Cacha, Ecuador, to gain an immersive language experience. They also acquired pre-professional experience by taking Medical Spanish classes through the Cacha Medical Spanish Institute (Cachamsi). Their participation in clinical rotations and translation at local hospitals and clinics gave them additional practice in adapting to the diverse dialects present among Spanish speakers around the world.
