Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls to No. 19 Birmingham-Southern

Conway, Ark. - Hendrix softball endured a tough weekend as they hosted the Birmingham-Southern (BSC) Panthers.

BSC entered the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play and ranked #19 in the most recent edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 rankings.

Final Scores
Game 1: BSC 12-1 Hendrix (F/5)
Game 2: BSC 18-3 Hendrix (F/6)
Game 3: BSC 10-0 Hendrix

Game 1
- Kelsey Sample stared in the circle and did not surrender a hit in her first 3 innings of work. The Warriors were close to getting out of the top of the 4th with no damage until a 2-out fielding error presented an opportunity for the Panthers, who then tacked on the game's first three runs, all unearned.
- Tori Veith smoked a solo shot down the right field line to put Hendrix on the board in the 4th.
- The 5th-inning snowballed out of control as the Warriors gave up 9 runs on 6 hits with another fielding error.
- Hendrix went down in order in the home half of the inning to induce the run rule.

Game 2
- BSC got on the board in the first with an unearned run off a sacrifice fly. Hendrix was able to respond, as Betty Wolfe scored while Grace Bryant was being caught in a rundown.
- The Panthers would go into the 6th leading 9-3 in what would become another snowball inning; BSC scored 10 runs on 6 hits to go up 18-3 and put the Warriors away.

Game 3
- Sample made her second start of the weekend and got off to a great start, taking a no-hitter into the 5th and not surrendering a run until the 6th.
- Up until the 5th, the Warriors had outhit the Panthers 6-0, but could not capitalize with runners in scoring position.
- BSC would tack on 6 runs on 4 hits in the 6th, and then plate 4 more in the 7th to secure the series sweep.

Hendrix now sits at 5-12 (1-8 SAA) and will look to get back on track in a couple midweek non-conference doubleheaders versus in-state foes Lyon and Arkansas Baptist.
