Birmingham, Ala.- The Warrior Softball Team traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for the Southern Athletic Association conference tournament. Going into the tournament, the Warriors held a 10-22 record. They were set to take on the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers in Game 1.
Game 1: Makayla Ragland started in the circle for the Warriors, going three innings, allowing 4 runs (4 earned runs), 6 hits, 3 walks. Kelsey Sample came on in relief of Ragland, throwing the last three innings, allowing 3 runs (all earned), 4 hits, 1 walk.
At the plate, the Warriors were kept off of the scoreboard until the fifth inning. Paizley Vaught drove in Betty Wolfe on a triple before being driven in herself by an Andie Houser single. These were the only Warrior runs in the game. As a team, they had seven hits, two of which came off the bat of Kendyl Patton. The Birmingham-Southern pitching shut down the Warrior bats for most of the contest while their bats did some work, taking Game 1 from the Warriors 7-2.
Game 2: Following the loss in Game 1, the Warriors matched up against the Centre College Colonels. Tori Veith took the circle for the Warriors, going three and two-thirds innings pitched, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks. Emma Barrentine came in relief of Veith, tossing three and one-third innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, Barrentine was tagged for the loss in Game 2.
Game 2 proved to be an extremely exciting match with the lead changing hands multiple times and some timely hitting for both the Warriors and the Colonels. Centre held the lead until the sixth inning when the Warriors scored six runs, starting off with a Grace Bryant two-run homer. Of the Warriors' eleven hits, Aubrey Lee, Grace Bryant, Emma Barrentine, and Kendyl Patton accounted for two hits each. One of Barrentine's hits was a double, and one of Kendyl Patton's was good for three bases. Centre rallied past the Warriors in the top of the seventh and took the game by a score of 8-7. On the season, the Warriors were 10-24, 2-17 in SAA play.
