Conway, Ark. - The Hendrix Warriors did the double over Westminster (Mo.) by run-ruling the Blue Jays twice in Saturday's doubleheader to earn their first two wins of the young season.
Game 1
Sadie Lewis got the start in the circle and tossed a gem in her first career start. The freshman threw 4.0 IP and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits en route to a winning decision.
Betty Wolfe came in from right field in the 5th inning to close out the game with a couple strikeouts.
The Warriors scratched three runs across in the first inning, with
Layton Rogers scoring the first of her game-high three runs.
Hendrix added four more in the second to take a commanding 7-2 lead.
Paizley Vaught's 3rd-inning triple drove in Sam Wood and Rogers, before Wood's 2-RBI single in the fourth inning allowed Lewis and
Tori Maldonado to score and put the run rule into effect.
Ashlynn Fowler and Vaught ended Game 1 both 2-for-3 with 5 RBIs between them.
Game 2
Ashlynn Fowler got the start in Game 2 and was fantastic, surrendering just two hits in three innings of work without giving up a run.
Emma Salis entered in relief and tossed 2.0 IP of no-hit ball while recording her first career strikeout.
The Warriors put seven on the board in the first runs on five hits. They added six more in the second inning after taking advantage of Westminster's pitching woes.
Fowler finished Game 2 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Through four games, the sophomore is hitting .714 with 10 hits and 6 RBIs.
