Conway, Ark. - Hendrix opened up play in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) with an 11-5 win over Oglethorpe on Friday night at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
The Stormy Petrels got the scoring started with two quick goals to open the contest, but Hendrix hit back with goals from
Nick Quarles,
Jet Long, and
Klaus Rowan to take a 3-2 lead.
With under ten seconds left to play in the period, Oglethorpe found the equalizer to even the score.
Michael DeCaro won the opening face-off of the second period and immediately assisted Quarles for the go-ahead goal. Quarles would net another goal with 1:41 to play in the half to give Hendrix a 5-4 lead heading into halftime.
Talin Polka scored his first-career goal just over a minute into the second half to double the Warriors' lead.
Austin Williams tacked on his first of the game with six seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Oglethorpe got back on the board early in the fourth period, but Hendrix ended the game on a 4-0 scoring run to close out the 11-5 win with goals from
Matthew Parsons, Quarles, Rowan, and
Maximus LaMendola.
Quarles led the Warriors with a game-high five points on four goals and one assist. Rowan backed that up with two goals and two assists.
Ian Domeika was terrific in goal, recording 18 saves on 23 shots put on goal.
The win improves Hendrix to 5-4 (1-0 SAA). They will host Berry on Sunday in their penultimate home contest of the season.
