Birmingham, Ala. - Hendrix's postseason run ended on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Millsaps in the first elimination game of the pod round hosted by Birmingham-Southern (BSC).
After
Tori Veith pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 1st, the Warriors got two aboard early in the Hendrix half of the inning as
Betty Wolfe and
Peyton Frady led off the inning with singles. However, they could not convert with traffic on the base paths as they left two stranded heading into the 2nd inning.
Millsaps took the lead in the 2nd with two runs, but Hendrix started as they did in the 1st inning and got the first two hitters aboard to lead off the inning. With one gone and
Austynn Caudle and
Nakia Fields in scoring position,
Layton Rogers sent a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Caudle for the Warriors' first run. Fields would be thrown out at third base after trying to advance on the throw from the outfield.
Despite 6.0 combined scoreless innings from Veith and
Ashlynn Fowler after working around Millsaps' two-spot in the 2nd, Hendrix was unable to capitalize on the brilliant pitching performances. The Warriors went down in order in every inning but the 5th and struggled to threaten the Majors' lead.
Veith scattered 6 hits in 6.0 innings of work and recorded 3 strikeouts. Fowler entered in relief in the 7th and tossed a scoreless frame while working around 3 walks.
The Warriors' season comes to an end after losses to hosts BSC and Millsaps over the weekend in Birmingham.
