Clinton, Miss. - Hendrix finally took the field on Sunday after a two-week delay due to weather as they squared off with the Mississippi University for Women on Sunday for a doubleheader.
The Warriors won 4-3 in Game 1 to hand head coach
Kara LeLeux a win in her first game at the helm before having to settle for a series split after a loss in Game 2.
Game 1 (W, 4-3)
Emma Salis started out in the circle and was magnificent for the Warriors, allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits in 6.0 innings of work. The junior surrendered just 6 base runners while striking out 3.
Hendrix took an early lead in the first as
Ella Boling drove in
Betty Wolfe with an RBI double, the first hit of her young career. Wolfe had led off the inning with a lead-off double.
Wolfe led off the third inning with a single, then stole second to get into scoring position. After Boling reached on a single to put runners on the corners,
Tori Maldonado smacked a two-out single up the middle to bring in Wolfe and make it a 2-0 game.
Rylee Harris led off the fourth with a single and advanced to second on a throwing error, and then advanced to third after
Peyton Frady single to center. Wolfe then promptly scored Harris and Frady with a double to right center for the third and fourth runs.
The Warriors' offense slowed down after that, and after Hendrix allowed two runs to score in the 5th, Salis reentered in the 6th and shut the door on the Owls, retiring the side in the final two innings to clinch the win.
Game 2 (L, 9-8)
Hendrix took an early 3-0 lead in the first before allowing 6 runs across over the next three innings. The Warriors retook the lead in the 7th with a 2-RBI double from
Rylee Harris before Harris was brought in by
Ella Boling for the 8th run. MUW plated two runs in the home half of the inning to keep the game going, with the tying run being unearned. The Owls would walk it off in the 8th on an RBI single to score the ghost runner at second.
Emmaline Trosclair went the distance in her Warrior debut, allowing 9 runs on 9 hits, with only 6 of those runs earned.
