Women's Lacrosse Makes History with Dominant Win over Spalding

Louisville, Ky. - Hendrix improved to 7-3 on Sunday afternoon with a 19-5 win over Spalding for its best start in program history through ten games.

Eliza Thacker took advantage of a man-up opportunity to put the Warriors in front just over two minutes into the game. Peyton Refling added onto that lead just thirty seconds later, and Kasha Graham got in among the goals at the 10:49 mark for a 3-0 lead.

Thacker scored her second goal of the game four minutes later before Celina Owens-Campbell netted her first of the game with 4:55 left to play in the opening quarter. Refling added a second just a minuter later to make it 6-0 before Spalding finally got on the board with just over two minutes to play. Owens-Campbell scored her second right before the horn sounded for the first period to make it 7-1 after 15 minutes.

Spalding scored two quick goals to begin the second period, but Hendrix then netted four unanswered goals with one apiece from Thacker, Refling, Kinley Robinson, and Samantha Shrader. Refling scored another with five minutes left in the quarter to give Hendrix a 12-4 lead going into halftime.

Robinson, Refling, and Thacker were back on the scoresheet in the third quarter to make it 15-4. Spalding scored their last goal of the match with 4:24 left in the third.

Hendrix scored four unanswered in the fourth quarter with Sophia Smith getting in on the action and two more goals from Refling.

Refling and Thacker ended the match with eight points apiece. Owens-Campbell and Robinson each had four points on two goals and two assists each.

Hendrix (7-3, 0-1 SAA) will remain on the road next weekend as they head to Berry for their second conference contest of the season. They will close out the regular season with three home games versus Rhodes, Sewanee, and Oglethorpe.
