Memphis, Tenn. - Hendrix softball suffered a series sweep to I-40 rivals Rhodes in Memphis over the weekend.
Game 1 (L, 7-3)
The Warriors struck first in the series with a
Betty Wolfe one-out solo shot in the third inning after
Emma Salis (L, 10-11) allowed just one base runner in the first two innings. Rhodes took a 3-1 lead in the next half inning off back-to-back doubles to lead off the Lynx half of the third.
In the Hendrix fifth,
Peyton Frady led off with a triple to right center but was in danger of being left stranded after two infield pop-ups. However,
Rylee Harris sent a two-out shot to left field to tie the game at 3-3. Rhodes retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning to secure the series opener.
Only three of the seven runs that Salis was charged with were earned runs. She struck out two hitters and scattered eight hits in her six innings of work. Wolfe and Harris led the Warriors with two hits each.
Game 2 (L, 10-3)
For the second consecutive game,
Betty Wolfe got the scoring started, this time with a lead-off bomb to right center field in the top of the first. The Warriors' offense sputtered fromt here and struggled to score another run until the sixth when
Tori Maldonado spanked a bases-loaded single to left field to score Wolfe.
Julia Hayes drew a two-out walk to score the third run, but the Warriors were held scoreless from there.
Harris led the Warriors with two hits in Game 2, while Wolfe finished 1-2 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two walks.
Game 3 (L, 5-1)
Rhodes drew first blood for the first time in the series, tacking on one run in the first and adding a couple more in the third inning.
Kaycee Schoen led off the fourth inning with solo shot to trim the lead to two, but the Lynx responded in the next half inning to take a 5-1 lead. Hendrix was only able to manufacture two more base runners after Schoen's home run and failed to bring either of them home.
Emma Salis entered in relief of
Emmaline Trosclair (L, 0-5) in the fifth inning and completely shut down the Lynx, surrerendering just two base runners on walks while not allowing a hit.
