SB | Softball Drops Road Series to Ozarks

Clarksville, Ark. - Hendrix was swept in its first SCAC road series of the season over the weekend against the University of the Ozarks.

Game 1 (L, 7-0)
The Warriors were shut out in the series opener and limited to just four hits over the seven innings.

Bell Jaramillo singled down the left field line with one out in the first but was then thrown out at second in the ensuing at-bat on a fielder's choice. Ozarks took the lead in the next half-inning on a go-ahead two-run home run. The Warriors went down in order in the second, and the Eagles added two more runs off another two-run homer afterwards. Alyssa Sornia was left stranded in the third after her one-out single, and Hendrix failed to convert on an Emerson Naismith lead-off single in the fourth inning. Back-to-back extra-base hits in the home fourth gave Ozarks a 6-0 lead, and they tacked on one more for good measure in the home fifth on a two-out RBI double.

Emmaline Trosclair (L, 0-2) and Sadie Lewis each recorded a strikeout in the circle.

Game 2 (L, 10-9)
The Warriors plated their first runs of the weekend early in Game 2, with Emerson Naismith driving in Rylee Harris on a double. Bell Jaramillo then came around to score from third on an error by the Eagles' catcher.

Ozarks equalized in the home second on a solo shot and an RBI single, but Oakley Cotropia's double down the right field line in the top of the third brought in Peyton Frady and Tori Maldonado to retake the lead for Hendrix. The Eagles then plated one in the third and took the lead off a three-run homer in the fourth. Two bases-loaded hit-by-pitches in the same inning added two more runs in what turned out to be a nightmare inning for the Warriors.

Kaycee Schoen's solo shot in the fifth gave Hendrix some momentum in the fifth, but Ozarks made it 10-5 in the home half of the inning with a two-RBI single up the middle.

Hendrix put up a four-spot in the final inning but left the tying run on first after a foul fly out to end the game.

Emma Salis (L, 0-3) recorded two strikeouts in the loss, while Sadie Lewis tossed two shutout innings and allowing just one hit.

Game 3 (L, 8-0)
The final game of the series ended after just five-innings as the Eagles rolled to an 8-0 run-rule victory.

Three runs in the second gave the hosts some early momentum, before a three-run homer in the home third gave Ozarks a considerable advantage. In the previous half-inning, Hendrix manufactured some action on the basepath with two two-out singles, but the side was eventually retired with both runners left stranded. Emmaline Trosclair looked to put Hendrix on the board in the visitor fifth, but she was thrown trying to reach second on a single to left to dull any hopes of a comeback.

With the score at 7-0, Ozarks walked it off in the home fifth on an RBI single to right field.

Hendrix (0-8, 0-6 SCAC) will take a break from conference play to travel to Batesville next Saturday for a doubleheader with Lyon College. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 1:00 PM.
