SB | Softball Splits Midweek Doubleheader with Millsaps

CONWAY - Hendrix picked up a significant midweek split with Millsaps on Thursday evening at Warrior Softball Field.

Game 1 (L, 5-0)
Hendrix was shutout in the first game and limited to just three hits across the seven innings.

The Majors got on the board in the first inning, and Hendrix left Emerson Naismith stranded in scoring position in the home first after a lead-off single.

Emma Salis (L, 2-6) put Millsaps down 1-2-3 in the second but allowed another run to come across in the visitor third with a two-out single. After Naismith singled in the home first, the Warriors did not get another base-runner until the fourth when Kaycee Schoen worked a one-out walk.

Emmaline Trosclair entered in relief of Salis in the top of the fifth, and Millsaps added another run with an RBI double, though Trosclair was able to strand two Majors on the base-path headed into the home half of the inning. Austynn Caudle worked a lead-off walk in the home fifth and reached second on a Peyton Frady sacrifice bunt, but was left stranded in scoring position to end the inning. The Majors plated two runs in the top of the seventh for good measure, and Hendrix was unable to keep the game going as the side was retired in the bottom of the seventh.

Game 2 (W, 4-3)
Gianna Robinson (W, 1-0) made the first start of her career and also earned a career-first winning decision with a strong 5.0 IP outing, allowing three runs on three hits.

The game began scoreless and remained so until a big home fourth for the Warriors. Emerson Naismith singled to lead off the inning, followed by infield singles from Bell Jaramillo and Kaycee Schoen. Sophia Shuff then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. Peyton Frady eventually stepped into the box with two outs and brought Shuff in with a triple to make it a four-run ballgame.

Millsaps answered back with a three-spot in the visitor fifth off of a three-run homer, but Robinson was able to limit the damage to retire the side with the help of a 2-6 putout from Shuff at second base to catch the runner stealing and erase the tying run.

Sadie Lewis (S, 1) entered in relief of Robinson in the top of the sixth and put the Majors down 1-2-3 for a scoreless frame, including a strikeout. Lewis induced two quick ground-outs to start the seventh and was able to work around a two-out double to leave the tying run stranded at second base and earn her first save of the season.

Naismith led the Warriors offensively with a 2-for-3 day at the plate and a run scored, her fourth multi-hit game of the year.
