CONWAY - On Saturday, Hendrix played host to Huntingdon College in the first-ever organized intercollegiate women's flag football games played in the state of Arkansas.

There was not a cloud in the sky on what turned out to be a gorgeous day at Crafton-Faulkner Field at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium for those in attendance. To help kick off the festivities, Hendrix College President Dr. Karen Petersen and Director of Athletics Amy Weaver participated in the pregame coin toss at midfield along with seniors Bella Cates, Shelby Heil, and Olivia Jackson.

Hendrix College joined a number of institutions at all three levels of the NCAA to help women's flag football achieve Emerging Sport for Women status at the NCAA convention this past January, and was one of the first schools in the south to sponsor the sport at the club level. The sport will transition to varsity status beginning in 2026-27.

The Warriors scored their first points late in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader when freshman Ava Hanson connected with Cates from 20 yards out as time expired.

Hendrix will play out the remainder of the 2026 regular season in Conway. They will host Pratt Community College and Cottey College on Sunday, April 12 before closing the regular season on Saturday, April 25 with a pair of contests versus Millsaps College and Southwestern Christian College.

Hendrix and Millsaps, former Southern Athletic Association rivals, will reunite as conference foes next year as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference begins sponsoring the sport at the conference level.
