CONWAY - Hendrix fell to Southwestern 17–5 on Saturday afternoon at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
Despite Hendrix's fourth-quarter rush with four late goals, the effort was not enough to overcome the deficit as the Pirates (6-9, 1-3 SAA) controlled the game early with a 10-goal second quarter.
The Warriors limited Southwestern to just two goals in the early-going but were unable to convert themselves in the offensive half of the field. The Pirates added two more in the final two minutes of the frame to take a 4-0 lead into the second quarter. It was there that the Pirates' offense really caught steam, as Southwestern netted four goals inside the first five minutes of the second frame and continued to pelt the Hendrix cage. With the score at 14-0, Hendrix finally got on the board with a
Zachary Cox goal 13 seconds from time, assisted by
Ethan Miller.
Hendrix ended the game on a run, out-scoring Southwestern 4-2 in the final quarter, but the match had long been decided by then. Cox added another goal as part of that four-goal fourth quarter, with
Joey Davis and
Matthew Parsons scoring. The highlight of the fourth quarter came with just over four minutes remaining when
Joshua Cantu scored his first career goal for the Warriors, assisted by
Bennett Davidson. Defensively, Cantu also scooped up a career-high three ground-balls.
Despite the Pirates on-rush,
Cooper Littleton had another solid day in the cage, making 17 saves over the 60 minutes.
The Warriors will close their home slate next Saturday, April 18 as they host Berry College at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium for senior day.
