MEMPHIS - Hendrix softball picked up an impressive nonconference midweek split versus their former Southern Athletic Association rivals Rhodes College on Tuesday afternoon in Memphis.
Game 1 (W, 4-2)
The Warriors took the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader thanks to timely offense and a strong performance in the circle from
Emma Salis. The senior righty threw a complete game, scattering eight hits across her 7.0 innings of work.
Hendrix started out the game well with
Bell Jaramillo and
Kaycee Schoen both getting into scoring position with two outs, but the Warriors were unable to convert on the opportunity. Rhodes drew first blood in the home third with a two-out RBI single, but the game then went scoreless until the Hendrix sixth.
Kaycee Schoen smoked a one-out double to right center field and was run for by
Julia Hayes. Hayes reached third on a wild pitch before being singled in by
Rylee Harris for the tying run. Harris then scored the go-ahead run on a
Tori Maldonado single, and Hendrix added two more on a
Peyton Frady fielder's choice.
In the home seventh, Salis worked around a one-out RBI double to leave the tying run stranded at second base and earn her fifth winning decision of the year.
Game 2 (L, 14-0)
The host's offensive came alive in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader, scoring six runs in the second inning and another eight in the fourth inning to run-rule Hendrix in five innings and split the doubleheader.
Hendrix's offense managed three hits in Game 2 as
Kaycee Schoen went 2-for-3 with two singles and
Emerson Naismith doubled to left center in the final inning.
In the circle,
Sadie Lewis and
Emmaline Trosclair each recorded a strikeout in their respective outings.
Up Next: Hendrix (11-21, 7-17 SCAC) will now gear up for their final home series of the year as they host LeTourneau on Friday and Saturday at Warrior Softball Field.
