KERRVILLE, Texas — Hendrix College was narrowly defeated 3-4 by the fourth-seeded Schreiner Mountaineers in the quarterfinals of the 2026 SCAC Tournament. Hendrix captured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions but was unable to capitalize on the positive start to the quarterfinal.
In doubles,
Caroline Lasley and
Josie Leffingwell claimed a 6-4 win over Schreiner's Mackenzie Griffin and Katherine Bergeron at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles,
Kate Adcox and
Abigail Youngberg triumphed in a tiebreak, 7-6, against Maya Jackson and Sonnae Garcia. Schreiner took the No. 2 doubles match, with Mikinley Jamison and Kinverly Ibarra defeating
Evelyn Sandlin and
Aysha Hosam, 6-2.
In singles, Schreiner responded strongly, winning four out of six matches. Maya Jackson started for Schreiner with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hosam at No. 5 singles, leveling the team score at 1-1. Lasley then put the Warriors back in the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Griffin at No. 1 singles, making it 2-1 in favor of Hendrix.
Youngberg extended the Warriors' lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Garcia at No. 6 singles. However, Schreiner clinched the overall match by sweeping the remaining singles matches. Bergeron prevailed over Adcox, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles, and Jamison secured a 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 victory against Laffingwell at No. 2 singles. Ibarra's 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-4 triumph over Sandlin at No. 3 singles sealed a 4-3 comeback win for Schreiner in the SCAC Tournament quarterfinal.
