Dr. Chris Camfield

Dr. Chris Camfield enters his ninth season as Hendrix faculty athletics representative and 13th year as a member of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science in 2023-24.

The role of the Faculty Athletics Representative is to provide a faculty voice ensuring balance between academics and athletics for the benefit of the student-athlete. Equipped with experience as a student-athlete and a professor, Camfield serves as a liaison between the athletic department and the faculty.

In addition to his duties as a mathematics professor, Camfield has served the Hendrix community through the Committee on Student Life, Committee on Academic Advising, Writing Across the Curriculum Committee, and as faculty mentor for Pi Mu Epsilon, the mathematics honor society. In 2015, he was awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation for his research on data-driven applications inspiring upper-division mathematics.

Prior to coming to Hendrix, Camfield was a Visiting Assistant Professor for two years at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.

A student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati, Camfield competed in cross country and track & field for the Bearcats. He is part of the school record holding 4x1600 and indoor distance medley relays and ranks among the top 10 in UC history for indoor 3000 meters (8:25) and outdoor 5000 meters (14:38). Camfield was the 2002 recipient of the Jimmy Nippert Award, given to the UC male student-athlete who best demonstrates academic achievement, athletic excellence, and community service.

Camfield, originally from Fairborn, Ohio, earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 2002. He continued his studies at Cincinnati, earning a doctoral degree in mathematics in 2008 while specializing in geometric measure theory and analysis on metric spaces.

Chris and his wife Sabrina reside in Conway with their children Ava and Levi.
