Sophomore Stephen Stearman topped a 44-year old record in the shot put at the UCA Open on Saturday with a throw of 14.50 meters (47 ft.-7 in.), placing third. His mark broke Tracy Love's record of 47 ft.-2.75 in. by 4.25 in. set in 1971. Stearman's throw was also the best in the Southern Athletic Association this season.
