CONWAY, Ark. – Senior middle blocker Melissa Clement broke the Hendrix College career kills record on Saturday as the Warriors defeated Oglethorpe University 25-19, 25-22, 16-25, 27-25 at Grove Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Rogers, Ark. native recorded hit .500 with 14 kills, bringing her career total to 1,242, passing Becca Clancy's (2007-10) old mark of 1,230.
With the win, the Warriors improve to 11-14 overall and 4-7 in Southern Athletic Association play. The Lady Petrels fall to 3-11 and 0-11.
For the match, Hendrix hit .174 with 46 kills, 11 aces, 75 digs and seven blocks. OU hit .220 with 56 kills, nine aces, 69 digs and seven blocks.
Along with Clement, senior outside hitter Kristen Finch recorded 14 kills and led the Warriors with four total blocks. Senior right side hitter Katie Bates added 10 kills. Freshman setter Breanna Wright had 41 assists and freshman libero Jill Sikes came up with 17 digs. Freshman outside hitter Shannon Abbot recorded a season-best 16 digs.
The Petrels were led by McKenna Bonadraenko's 21 kills and Ashley Haislip added 15. Erin Shelton recorded 11 kills and 11 digs and setter Anna Marie DiSalvo had 50 assists and 15 digs. Libero Megan Makuck led all players with 31 digs.
Hendrix will host Rhodes College on Wednesday night in a Dig for the Cure match.
