CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College field hockey fell just short against with 3-2 loss to first place Rhodes College at Warrior Field on Saturday. The visiting Lynx improved to 10-4 overall and 7-0 in the Southern Athletic Association, clinching the regular season title and the top seed in the SAA Tournament. The Warriors fall to 6-7 and 4-3 in the league and sit in second place with one game remaining in the regular season.
Katie Faucher gave the Lynx an early lead on a pass from Kat Simpson in the 11th minute. After halftime, Simpson scored with an assist from Sarah Ferguson go up 2-0 in the 46th minute.
Warrior sophomore Morgan Fires scored off her own rebound in the 50th minute, for her first career goal. Faucher assisted a Marie Mason insurance goal in the 59th minute to put the Lynx back-up 3-1. Hendrix senior defender Maggie DesPain scored the final goal of the game in the 61st minute.
For the game, Rhodes outshot Hendrix 11-10 and 8-5 in shots on goal.
Rhodes keeper Jordan Robinson recorded two saves and Regan McLaughlin had a defensive save. Hendrix sophomore Betsy Kelly recorded three saves and junior
Jennifer Koller had two defensive saves, setting a new program record with nine in her career.
Before the game, Hendrix honored their two seniors – DesPain and forward Kelly Rappe', who played in the final home game of their careers.
The Warriors will wrap up the regular season at fourth-place Sewanee next Saturday.
