SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Hendrix College field hockey team lost to Sewanee - The University of the South 3-1 in the final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon. WIth the loss, the Warriors fall to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in Southern Athletic Association play.
Hendrix claimed the third seed for next weekend's SAA Tournament in Memphis, Tenn. and they will face #2 Centre on Saturday in the semi-finals.
Senior defender Maggie DesPain gave the Warriors an early 1-0 lead by scoring on a pass from junior defender Elizabeth Lancaster in the 5th minute. Two minutes later, the Tigers (6-8, 3-4) tied it with an own goal, then took a 2-1 lead in the 12th minute on an Anne Booke goal. Mallory Silver assisted Molly Kennedy's score in the 17th minute for the final goal of the game.
Both teams took 14 shots, but Sewanee had a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Sophomore keeper Betsy Kelly had six saves for the Warriors and Anna Marrow came up with five for the Tigers.
