LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Hendrix College volleyball team won two matches against Philander Smith College on the road Tuesday night. The Warriors (10-13) topped the Lady Panthers (1-20) 25-8, 25-27, 25-14, 25-11 in the opener, then followed with a 25-11, 25-22, 25-12 sweep.
In the first match, Hendrix hit .226 with 50 kills, a season-high 15 aces, 55 digs and four blocks. PSC hit .035 with 28 kills, one ace, 53 digs and seven blocks.
Sophomore middle blocker led the Warriors with a career-high 15 kills and hit .481 and senior right side Katie Baties also registered a career-best with 14 kills and hit .387. Freshman setter Breanna Wright recorded her second consecutive double-double with 38 assists and 14 digs, both season-highs. Freshman libero Jill Sikes had 10 digs and served up six aces and sophomore Jasmine Johnson added five aces.
Zyra Wright led the Lady Panthers with 12 kills and Kayla Denton and Brenisha Banks had 14 digs each.
In the second match, the Warriors started out by hitting .739 with 17 kills and no errors on 23 attempts in the first set.
For the contest, Hendrix hit .363 with 43 kills, 13 aces, 41 digs and two blocks, while PSC hit .103 with 21 kills, three aces, 35 digs and four blocks.
Hunter and freshman outside hitter Shannon Abbott had nine kills each. Abbott also hit .615 and Bates had eight kills and hit .667. Wright recorded 23 assists and four aces and junior Zoe Calhoun had 15 assists and four aces. Defensively, freshman Felicia Beeman led the way with 10 digs.
Zyra Wright and Denton had six kills each for the Lady Panthers and Wright also came up with 13 digs.
Hendrix will return to Southern Athletic Association action on Friday night when they host Berry College at 6 p.m.
