Warriors Set for SAA Championships

Four of Hendrix College's fall sports will compete in their respective Southern Athletic Association Championship Tournaments this weekend. Each tournament will be the first for the new conference.

The Warrior women's soccer team will get thins started on Friday at 11 a.m. central when they take on host Centre College in Danville, Ky. Hendrix finished the regular season 4-11-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference, earning the eighth seed. The Colonels, who are ranked #9 and #11 nationally, went 16-1 and 6-1 to gain the top seed. Centre defeated Hendrix 4-1 in Conway on Oct. 19.

Hendrix senior forward Mel Roach leads the SAA with 12 goals and 28 points. Senior midfielder Rebecca Rahn leads the league with 10 assists, is second with 26 points and tied for fourth with eight goals.

If the Warriors win the opener, they will face the winner between Sewanee and Millsaps on Saturday at 11 a.m. Sunday's finals are scheduled for an 11 a.m. start as well.

Hendrix volleyball will travel to Mount Berry, Ga. as the sixth seed to face #3 Centre at 2 p.m. central on Friday. The Warriors went 13-17 overll and 5-9 in league play, while the Colonels were 14-15 and 9-5.

Centre won both matchups against Hendrix during the season, winning in Conway in five sets and in Danville in four.

If the Warriors knock off the Colonels, they will face the Millsaps-Oglethorpe winner on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Sunday's finals are set for a 1 p.m. start.

Hendrix senior middle blocker Melissa Clement ranks third in the SAA with 3.33 kills per set and fourth with a .317 hitting percentage. Freshman libero leads the league with 0.55 aces per set and is second with 4.50 digs.

The men's soccer Warriors, the fifth seed, will face fourh-seeded Millsaspn in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Hendrix set a new school record in wins this season by going 10-5-3 overall and finished in a tie with the Majors with a 2-3-2 SAA mark. Millsaps finished 5-8-3 overall. The Majors topped the Warriors 2-0 in Jackson, Miss. on Sept. 29

If Hendrix wins, they will face the winner between top seeded Centre and #8 Rhodes on Saturday at noon. The finals will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Senior forward Connor Silvestri ranks second in the SAA with 20 points and third with eight goals. Freshman goalkeeper Marco Luna is second with a 0.95 goals against average.

The Hendrix field hockey team will play in the SAA Tournament semi-finals against Centre at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in Memphis, Tenn. The Warriors are the third seed by going 6-8 overall and 4-4 in leauge play. The Colonels earned the second seed with an 8-7 and 5-3 record.

The teams split during the regular season, with Hendrix winning 1-0 in Danville on Sept. 16 and Centre taking a 2-0 victory in Conway on Oct. 7.

If Hendrix wins, they will advance to Sunday's finals scheduled for 11 a.m.

Warrior senior defender Maggie DesPain ranks fifth in the league seven goals. Sophomore keeper Betsy Kelly leads the SAA with a 1.50 goals against average.
